Mixed reality fire training for trainers

The fire is virtual. The workplace is real.

Trainees see their own workplace through the headset, and put out a virtual fire in it. No gas, no trailer, no clean-up.

How it works

They see the real room. We add the fire.

1 · The headset

Quest 3 has colour cameras on the front.

They film the room live, in high definition.

2 · Passthrough

Trainees see their own workplace.

Real walls, desks, people and exits. Nobody is lost in a virtual world.

3 · Mixed reality

The trainer places the fire in it.

Fire, extinguishers and alarm sit on the real bin, wall and floor.

1

Set the room

Point the controller at the wall, the burning object and the exit. About a minute.

2

Run the drill

Choose the right extinguisher, then Pull, Aim, Squeeze, Sweep.

3

Debrief, next person

A scored debrief straight away. One button and the next trainee starts.

Why it works

Realistic enough to matter. Simple enough to run anywhere.

Live fire or gas tray

Real flames, heavy logistics

  • Trailer, vehicle and gas to transport
  • Outdoors only, at the mercy of weather and fire bans
  • Set-up, pack-down, refills and clean-up
  • Mostly practises the extinguisher, not the response

Full virtual reality

Impressive, but hard on first-timers

  • New users often get disorientated
  • Needs a large, clear space to be safe
  • A generic virtual room, not their workplace
  • Harder to supervise what they can't see

First Attack XR

Mixed reality

  • A headset in a bag
  • Indoors, in the client's own workplace
  • They see the room, so they move with confidence
  • The whole RACE response, on their real exits
Why we built it

We tried the other ways first.

We're a workplace training company. For years we ran live fire: a gas rig, trays and extinguishers, plus the vehicle and trailer to get it there. Then weather calls, site approvals, refills and pack-down.

Next we tried full VR. It looked great, but people new to VR often lost their bearings, and we always needed a big clear space to run it safely.

We wanted something simpler that still felt real. Mixed reality was the answer, so we built it.

Get in touch

Use your own Quest 3 or 3S. Prices exclude GST. To start a licence, pay your first 3 months upfront. We set you up, then you have 3 months to run it with real groups. After that it's monthly and you can cancel anytime. If we can't get you set up, you get your money back. The founding discount lasts as long as your licence stays active. Founding licences aren't available within 50 km of Brisbane, where Team First Aid delivers this training itself.

Accredited training

First Attack XR is trainer-led VR practice mapped to key CPPFES2005 requirements: simulated fire situations, choosing the right extinguisher, fire blanket use and hose reel use. Your RTO remains responsible for its training and assessment strategy, equipment, assessors and competency decisions. Where your assessment needs real equipment, use this alongside it, not instead of it.

Questions

What trainers ask first

Which headsets does it work on?

A Meta Quest 3S or Quest 3 runs everything, including the mixed reality drill. A Quest 2 runs the full-VR rooms only. Planning to buy something else? Ask us first and we'll tell you straight.

What's included?

All four common extinguishers (water, dry powder, CO2 and foam), mixed reality drills for ordinary materials, electrical and flammable liquid fires, full-VR rooms including a staff kitchen with a fire blanket and a loading dock with a hose reel, practice and assessment modes, and a scored debrief.

How is it licensed?

Each business gets its own licence code. It works on as many headsets as you pay for, and you can swap a headset when one is replaced. Any number of trainers and trainees can use those headsets.

Do I need to install anything?

No. It runs in the headset's web browser. Enter your licence code once on each headset, then start. A connection is needed to start a session; a phone hotspot works.

How many people can I put through?

One trainee at a time per headset. A drill takes a few minutes and the next person starts with the same room setup.

Who's behind it?

Team First Aid, a Brisbane workplace training company. We built it for our own fire training and use it with real client groups.
